Alonzo Cook is believed to be the original builder and owner of the Charles Brown House, possibly dating back to 1866. Born in Maine in 1839, Alonzo would go on to attend Ohio State University as well as Union Law School which is now Northwestern University. Alonzo married Belle Webster and eventually the couple would live in several different states, one of them being Washington. After leaving Washington in 1874, Alonzo made his mark by starting the City of Garden Grove, California.

The Lloyd DuBois House, built 1902. 902 Esther Street, Vancouver, Washington.

Lloyd Dubois, brother in-law of Floy Miles Brown DuBois, owned the Vancouver Independent Newspaper and was also appointed to be the Vancouver Postmaster. In 1912 he started the Washington Exchange Bank. To this day, stories are told of a ghost heard on the porch. It is thought to be of a boy who was killed in a train accident in 1908 and his body was laid in this house. Currently the Vancouver Defenders occupy the house.
